Junior Samuel Everly has been playing clarinet since he was a middle school student. He joined the St. Matthew band in 7th grade and has continued to play ever since. 

When coming to the Hilll, Everly continued on his path in the performing arts. Everly joined both the theater as a crew member and the Cathedral Band. In the band, Everly is currently the clarinet section leader, which gives him more of a leadership role. 

Mr. Ian Callen, Cathedral Band Director said, “Sam is a skilled leader and someone who has an unshakeable positive attitude, motivation, and love for the activity. He leads by example through his dedication to self-improvement and through his humility. I can’t really imagine the band without him. He has really set himself apart as a core component of our identity as a band.” 

Recently, Everly has been accepted into the prestigious IMEA Honor Band, which is the Indiana Music Education Association. This is a program that composes their own band from the top musicians in Indiana. Being in this band allows for the musicians to experience how a professional concert band works. The IMEA currently has 1,100 active teachers, 100 retired members, and 700 college students who are music education majors. The goal of the IMEA is to support and enhance music education in the state of Indiana and being a member of the IMEA selected Honor Band, is an amazing achievement.

“I am very excited to be accepted into this honor band. I think it will be a very good opportunity to build my playing ability on the clarinet as well as a chance to meet other musicians from Indiana. I also look forward to the chance to be taught by professional college music instructors during the event,” said Everly.
