Mental health is a pressing issue throughout the United States, especially in teenagers. Here at Cathedral, English teacher Irene Wilson is giving students a safe space to relax and decompress. She is the head moderator of the Empowering Healthy Minds Club that meets most Mondays.
The club is mental health focused and works on things like coping strategies, knowing what a healthy relationship looks like, and how to live a healthy life. Its main purpose through all of that is to form communities and give students a chance to meet people in all grades.
On Tuesday December 7, the club will be watching the 2018 cartoon version of The Grinch in room 4107.
Ms. Wilson chose this movie keeping in mind what will be going on during that time for the students. “For a couple of reasons, one we wanted to do something stress relieving and we decided The Grinch because it’s a classic Christmas movie to get everyone in the holiday spirit and you get to see the Grinch growing throughout the movie and working through different emotions and I think the message is important.”
The Empowering Healthy Minds club is an important reminder that you’re not alone and can find a group.
Wilson said, “Students should join because it’s a great community of people and very low pressure. You can come and just hang out and talk about our days and have a safe place to relax and just decompress.”
