Regionals is one step closer to hoisting a state championship. This week the game means more than just that to Cathedral football players.
Throughout the season the players have worked tirelessly to get to this game to be able to bring home Cathedral’s sixteenth state victory. This week they go up against Ben Davis High School, a school right outside of Indianapolis about a 35 minute drive from Cathedral. The game will be played at UIndy with kickoff at 7pm.
Both teams have had a great season as Ben Davis is currently 10-1 and Cathedral is 8-3. Although the competition is fierce, senior team captain William Neale is confident in his teammates. He says, “I feel confident coming off a good win last week. I think we played one of our best games against Lawrence North and I’m hopeful that we can go out there and do the same thing against Ben Davis this week.”
William wasn’t the only one with inspiring words. Senior captain Danny O’Neil said, “I’m excited to be able to go out and play this week in a 6A regional game. This is what we’ve been working for all season so I’m confident in our skills as a team.”
Football is more than just a game, which is a cliche saying, but with Cathedral Football it’s a brotherhood and family.
Head Coach Bill Peebles talks on the true family aspect behind the team. “Brotherhood is an important part of Cathedral and we’ve named ourselves the band of brothers and it’s important they live that and they do. They hangout together, play together, work together, bleed together, and win together. This week we’re facing a really tough and talented opponent so we will definitely have to face adversity.”
Students and fans are highly encouraged to show out for this game to support the players and show the Cathedral High School pride. The student section will be dressed in a skiing theme. For this theme students are encouraged to wear skiing or snow attire such as winter coats, ski goggles, hats, etc.
In order to get closer to state, the student section needs to pack the stands and the team will need to play with energy. The Cathedral family is in this together. Peebles said, “If you don’t stick together when that adversity hits we’ll fall apart, so we have to hold each other accountable in order to be able to overcome the adversity.”
