Starting with the Unified Media teacher, Mr. Marc Quaranta: “I was in 7th grade taking ISTEP and we were interrupted. Also, my parents were on a plane coming back from Florida, so that was terrifying.”
Science teacher and football coach Mr Adam Barth: “I was a Freshman at Purdue. I actually skipped my 7:30 Spanish class and woke up to my roommate saying that we were getting attacked and then I saw the second plane hit the tower. That day I had an 11:30 English class, but every other class that day was canceled. There was then a candle lighting on campus that I went to.”
Religion Teacher Mr Matthew Cannaday: “I was in 5th grade. It was a beautiful day. We started class, and our teacher got called out. We started messing around like any 5th grader would do. He came back 30 minutes later and started teaching class. Recess got canceled which was weird. At the end of the day we gathered around and he told us what happened and I didn’t really grasp what was going on.”
Religion teacher Mrs. Katie Lewis: “I was taking ISTEP sophomore year in high school. They came over the announcements and said that we were safe here. I answered “C” for the rest of the ISTEP and went to meet my friend Mary in the bathroom and her dad worked at pentagon so we were freaking out”
Math Teacher Mrs Ford: “I was teaching. We had fashion TVs. It happened during the day kids were talking about it and we turned on the TVs and watched the second plane hit. There was a girl in my class and her dad was in New York and she lost it, it was very emotional for everyone. My biggest memory was when I picked up my son from 2nd grade. I had the radio on and they were talking about it and he looked at me and said ‘you mean they did that on purpose’ in the eyes of a little kid he couldn’t imagine that evil was done on purpose. He was so innocent and that happened and killed the innocence. It was awful”
Because of the lasting impact from this day memories are easily recalled and prayers are continued everyday for those who were affected by this tragedy.
