The smell of school spirit is in the air as homecoming rolls around yet again. The time of the year that everyone looks forward to, filled with powder puff, decorations, and crazy outfits.
This year homecoming is early with it being September 1-8, concluding with the football game against Penn and an assembly. The themes for the upcoming week include All out Irish (Friday), Decades (Tuesday), Country vs Country club (Wednesday), barbecue dad vs soccer mom(Thursday), and Class Themes (Friday).
Religion teacher, Mr. Nick Jamell said, “Homecoming allows for everyone that has been affected by the spirit of Cathedral to show their pride.”
“It’s a time where the Cathedral family comes together to show our school pride and love for our school while remembering we are one Cathedral family and not separate classes battling it out,” fellow Religion Teacher Mr. Matthew Cannaday added.
Before the week begins, class officers and students help decorate the halls with designated class themes. The class officers send out an email with information about how to help with the decorating to make sure everyone can be involved and are able to show their school pride.
At the end of the week a spirit stick is handed out to the class with the most school spirit based on energy, going to the homecoming activities, decorating their hall and dressing up in the themes. The money students raised during the Ignite The Irish fundraiser also awards points. The spirit stick has been a tradition for decades and continues to be the most prized thing to win throughout the year. “Senior year is about making Memories with the people we love so this is our last homecoming so why not make the best of it,” Said senior StuCo member Bryce Hahn.
