Face Off: Spring Break Travel

Caroline Schilling – Travel

Spring break is here… time to travel! Many might decide to opt on the side of staying home, but for me there are countless reasons in front of you to get away from Indiana! The beginning of the year and the cold winter months are taxing on many. The perfect escape and boost of energy comes from travel. Spring break travel allows the opportunity to get away from the distractions and troubles, with no consequences to school or work.

This year, my friends and I will be traveling to Siesta Key which will allow us the perfect opportunity to escape our stress from school and other aspects. Spring break is the best break to travel during as it is just the beginning of the road to the end of the school year. Junior Avery Stuckey said, “Being able to get out of Indiana and relax allows the perfect escape from school. I will be traveling to Siesta Key, Florida with all of my friends and family for a week of relaxation and warmth!”

While some might believe that the better option is to stay home for spring break, I believe it is most beneficial to travel. Some stay home to work or focus on other aspects, which is completely understandable, but what better way to escape these stressors than to explore somewhere new!

For families, vacations are the best way to spend quality time together and create new memories. Even if not traveling, students have the ability to look forward to a break and the idea of traveling.

So what are you waiting for? There is no better time than now to pack up and go somewhere!

Madison Spiegel – Stay Home

Spring break is one of the most anticipated times of the year for students as it offers a time when you can take a break from studies to travel and get some much deserved rest. However, I think that you can get that same rest from staying home instead of traveling, for example, to an overpopulated and overrated Florida beach. Staying home for spring break provides the perfect opportunity to pick up more hours at work, saving money instead of spending it. Not to mention it gives students, especially any seniors heading off to college in just a few short months, a valuable opportunity to spend some quality time with family at home.

Being a senior, taking a fun, friend-filled spring break trip is something that I heard tales of from graduates but as it approached I found myself not quite understanding this ritual. Airlines and hotels capitalize on this student holiday, switching hotel room prices to triple and raising the cost of flights to destinations like Florida. I find it more valuable to stay home and work, raising my bank account instead of draining it on just a few short days. For some people I completely understand the need to get out of town for a few days, but why go for such a short amount of time when you could go for double the time and half the price on different dates? After spring break, there is just 2 more months of school that will fly by quickly and give students the break that they truly deserve.

It’s important to remember that just because you’re staying home doesn’t mean you can’t explore the area around you. You can find low-cost activities in your own town that you may have never even considered before. Exploring your own community is a great way to learn about your city and appreciate where you live and what you have.

There are so many compelling reasons why staying at home and working during spring break can be a smart move. By spending quality time with family, being productive around the house, and exploring locally, you can save money, avoid risks, catch up on work, and finish off the rest of the year strong.
