Women’s basketball draws LC in Sectional
Head coach notes familiarity with her team’s opponent
Going into the final regular season game with a record of 14-8, the women’s varsity basketball team looks to make their tournament run, with the Irish opening Sectional play against Lawrence Central at 6 p.m. on Feb. 2 at Warren Central. Head Coach Mrs. Lisa Finn shares her initial thoughts heading into the Sectional.
“I am always excited to see the draw so we can start preparing. There are many different ways you can look at it to see how you’d like it to play out. At the end of the day, we have really good teams in our Sectional and it won’t be easy. We are somewhat familiar with LC so that does help some,” Finn said.
The last time the Irish took home a Sectional championship in women’s basketball was in 2005. Finn said, “We have been focusing on taking things one day at a time and doing the little things. That has helped us over the past few weeks. Yes, we have big picture goals, but we are trying to not get caught up in that and doing the little things each day that will make our team better. We talk a lot about how it takes all of us and each of us has an important part in our plan as a team.”
If the Irish win the Sectional opener, they would take on the winner of the North Central-Crispus Attucks game on Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m. The Sectional championship will be played Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. Warren Central will serve as the host of all of the Class 4A Sectional 10 games.
