Student musicians earn top ratings at Feb. 4 district contest

Group I gold medal recipients qualify for State contest at end of month

Director of bands Mrs. Kathy McCullough reports that all of Pride of the Irish band members competed at the Feb. 4 District Indiana State School Music Association solo and ensemble contest.

“They did a super job and it was great to see and hear them perform at one of three different performance levels,” McCullough reported via email.

Several musicians received gold medal ratings at Group I and qualified for the state solo and ensemble contest, which will take place at the end of the month: Marlee Clayborn, snare drum solo; Holly Czachura, French horn solo; Nandi Hawkins; drum set solo; Joseph James, snare drum solo; Anika Kansky, violin solo; Morris Kimble, snare drum solo; Miranda Ma, clarinet solo; Kyle Nickolson, trombone solo; Nathan Li, timpani solo, snare drum solo, marimba solo (with a perfect score of 9); Gia Peduto, marimba solo; and Greyson Turner, tuba solo as well as the Moore clarinet trio of Christian Dummer, Anika Kansky and Liam Moore.
