The Irish are off to a hot 3-1 start with their only loss to the Number-1 team in Ohio. The team is hungry looking to bounce back from their loss.

On Dec. 10, a talented Warren Central comes to the Welch Activity Center to play the Irish. Head Coach Mr. Jason Delaney shares his thoughts before the game.

“I think we’re off to a good start this year. We’re 3-1 and though we don’t want to lose, we want to challenge ourselves. When we built the schedule, we wanted to face adversity. We wanted to have times where we would pull together, stay on the same page and where we’d be in environments with no fans and we’d have to cheer for ourselves.

“(Dec. 3) at home against Brebeuf (a 63-61 win in overtime) was amazing. Throughout this early season, we’ve seen a lot of things that need to be corrected. We were really good in the summer. We need to get back to how we were then. There’s no shame in losing to the Number-1 team in Ohio. Warren is a talented team ranked in the Top 10. (On Dec. 11), we play the Number-2 team in Kentucky. This schedule was built to push us and prepare for Sectional 10,” Delaney said.

Warren Central features senior Tae Davis, a Louisville recruit, as the Warriors’ leading scorer. Delaney said, “I don’t know if you can shut Tae Davis down. We just have to try and do the best we can to contain him. We had a lot of talks this week about how we can’t let the best players of teams have their best games against us.

“I’m anxious to see how our guys play against their two best guys. Tae Davis and Chandler Jackson score about 75 percent of their points and take 80 percent of their shots. We want to see who can have the grit to shut their best guys down and make their other guys try to beat us.”

Delaney listed some of his expectations for the team against the Warriors. “We absolutely have to control the paint. We need a lot of paint touches and score points down low. It’s going to allow us to create opportunity for a kick out three pointer. Jake Davis has been a little slow getting going and we can help him out and let him do his job.

“We believe in our guys and we know what they are capable of. We just need to get them going. Right now it’s early, but we have to continue to improve,” Delaney said.
