Baccalaureate Mass will have limited attendance
Changes to service will be due to Covid-19 restrictions
The annual Baccalaureate Mass will take place on the campus football field on May 21 at 5 p.m.
In case there is inclement weather, the service will be moved into the Welch Activity Center. The Irish 500, senior painting of the wall and food truck availability will all happen in conjunction with the Mass as well. Details will be sent in the coming weeks.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, only seniors and their parents will be allowed to attend the event on the football field. Senior Julia Reasinger said, “I wasn’t too disappointed about the Mass being limited, mostly because I would really only expect my parents to come anyway, and I’m pretty sure my brother is glad he doesn’t have to come.”
If the Mass is moved indoors, only seniors will be allowed to go to the service because of limited seating. The Mass will be live streamed for families to watch at home, whether the event takes place indoors or outdoors.
Reasinger said she was hopeful that the weather would cooperate. She said, “Hopefully it isn’t super windy or hot because that would be uncomfortable.” Reasinger added that the socially distant Masses that had been celebrated previously throughout the year “have run well,” and she said that she “doesn’t expect this one to be any different.”
Reasinger said that the administration has done a great job providing students with as much normalcy as possible with the Covid-19 protocols. “Having to conform our traditions to these Covid restrictions hasn’t been easy, and there are obviously still some things that aren’t doable this year. But unlike the majority of schools across the country, we’ve been able to keep some of these core traditions alive which is something I’ve been super grateful for.”
Although the Baccalaureate Mass will look different this year due to Covid-19 limitations, Reasinger said, “I’m looking forward to the excitement that comes with the Baccalaureate Mass. Around this time we’re about to graduate, families will be coming into town and all of the college decision stress will — hopefully — be over. It’s just an exciting time because it’s the culmination of our four years at Cathedral and we’ve finally reached it.”
