Mass will affect academic schedule on March 19
Seniors will meet in the WAC; underclassmen will view online
For a Mass for the feast of St. Joseph, the academic schedule will be changed on Friday, March 19.
This schedule will be similar to previous days with changes, with a virtual Mass for freshmen, sophomores and juniors, and a safe, socially distanced service that will take place in the Welch Activity Center for seniors. Ms. Ashley Hill and the academic team have used this schedule in the past to accommodate the services.
Hill, who serves as the school’s mission integration director, stressed the importance of attending a Mass on feast days. “Saint Joseph is one of the patron saints for the brothers of the Holy Cross, and so we wanted to make sure that we were putting our Catholicity first and having Mass,” Hill said.
She says that March 19 will be similar to a Day 3/activity period schedule, and Mass will take place during class just as the activity period does. However, March 19 is a Day 2, with the virtual service during A period from 12:30 to 1:10 p.m. Classes will be shorted to 50 minutes to accommodate Mass.
With Covid, Mass cannot occur as it usually would, either in the WAC or on the football field. By doing it virtually, it can still take place, while ensuring the safety of staff and students, Hill said.
This change will not affect the five-day schedule; however, March 19 is the last school day before leaving for spring break. Hill said, “Technically Friday is still a Day 2. You will see all of your Day 2 classes, and then after spring break we will come back to a Day 3.”
