For seniors, the time has finally come. Senior yearbook quotes are to be submitted by 4 p.m. on Jan. 29, and the pressure is on.

For many, crafting the perfect quote will be quite the challenge. The present calls for turning to the imagination, spending time brainstorming, starting to write and rewriting until the final quote comes to light.

Yearbook faculty moderator Mr. Tony Willis sent an email to the Senior Class on Jan. 26 at 8 a.m. providing a Google form for submission. The instructions stated, in part, “Please keep in mind that your quote will represent you for the rest of your life.” This very idea is what makes coming up with a senior quote so nerve wracking and difficult. Because the quote is permanent, there is pressure on every senior to assure that his or her submission will withstand the test of time.

Senior Brooke Wood said, “It’s hard to pick a senior quote because there are so many memories to choose from, and it’s the way you’ll be remembered by your classmates forever.”

On a similar note, senior Lily Butler said, “Picking a quote is hard because people can look back on it forever, even our kids.” The legacy of senior quotes definitely brings a challenge to the task. However, inspiration is not hard to come by.

Butler adds that, in trying to select her personal quote, she has relied on both those of former students and the ideas from people in her life. “I’ve asked my friends and family to help me and I’ve even looked on TikTok. Looking back through my yearbooks, I like the quotes that are funny and the ones that use lyrics.”

There are many places to look for inspiration. Ideas from friends and family, social media, former quotes and favorite memories, songs and works of literature are a few good places to start. But at the end of the process, the final choice should be made by the person whose picture will sit above the quote for the rest of time.
