Athletics director provides update on new guidelines
Class 5A football Regional title game will not be affected
Marion County has released new guidelines that will affect high school sporting events in response to a rising number of Covid-19 cases.
According to Athletics Director Mr. Rick Streiff, the Regional championship football game on Nov. 13 will not be affected, as guidelines go into place after this date. Students still will be able to attend the game at Arsenal Tech, and will be required to maintain social distance and wear a mask. If the Irish defeat Whiteland, the Semistate game against either Castle or Jeffersonville will abide by whatever rules the county in which game is played has in place.
Beginning on Nov. 30, men’s and women’s basketball games will be limited to two spectators per athlete along with any essential personnel for the contests. Streiff said information is still coming in but, “the governor, Marion County and the IHSAA are all working together to create a plan. We just have to wait and see what happens.”
