The women’s varsity basketball team gathers during a timeout last season.

The women’s varsity basketball team will welcome Warren Central at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 10 in the Welch Activity Center. Second-year Head Coach Mrs. Finn said her team may be an underdog going into the game. She wrote in an email, “I don’t believe this class of seniors has ever beaten Warren Central.”

If the seniors and the rest of the Irish are going to upset Warren, senior Courtney Fields is someone to look out for. She has averaged 20 points over the first two games of the season and spreads the floor very well with her passing ability, according to Finn.

Warren is a three-point shooting team but has no problem scoring inside as well. “We need to have a solid defensive effort. The versatility of our team will be a big benefit for us,” Finn wrote in an email.

Covid-19, as is the case for every Irish team, has affected how her team has practiced and how fans can see home games. Finn said, “Our biggest thing is just reinforcing to the girls that keeping a tight circle is important and (to stay) away from large gatherings. We know that having to quarantine is always a possibility, so we are thankful as time goes on and for each game we get in safely.”

On Nov. 9, Athletics Director Mr. Rick Streiff sent an email to the student body for securing a pass to the game on a first-come, first-served basis in order to limit the number of fans in the Welch Activity Center.
