The annual Black History Month assembly will take place Feb. 12 in the Welsh Activity Center from 10:50 to 11:50 a.m.

Vice president for community relations and diversity Mr. Kenneth Barlow ‘82 said, “I’m very excited about this assembly. It’s a unique and different format in terms of how we are performing this year. There is more intimate connectivity.”

Barlow said the theme for this year’s assembly is black girl magic and black boy joy. The keynote speaker for this year’s program is Mr. Eric Saunders ‘01.

This year’s assembly also will feature singing and rapping and speeches given by students. Students who will  participate include the gospel choir, seniors Janay Zak, Jaylen Johnson, Jye Johnson, Sean Ledford, Myhea Hollingsworth and JaCoi Robinson; juniors Troix Henderson and Aniya Exum; sophomores Victory Sampson and Callie Helm; and freshman Nyla Stanback.

Barlow said, “I think it’s important, particularly with this year’s performance, that we not only acknowledge and share black history, but we highlight and share our students who are black history in the making. I’m very appreciative of the support from our leadership team and the school holistically for our Black History Month program.”
