The annual Circle City Classic Coronation took place Sept. 21 at Marian University. Every year, this scholarship program is held for young African American women to win money and prizes for college, as well as be crowned the Circle City Classic Queen. 

This year, six of the 12 participants were Cathedral seniors: Alise Chavis, Nyah Conway, Clara Issac, Danielle Levingston, Kennedy Maye and Brea Sims. As the ceremony took place, the girls had a high school tribute, dressing up in the fighting Irish football uniforms. With pom poms, whistles and posters, they showed their school spirit. They then took the stage as they displayed a fashion show for the crowd. Afterward, the girls took part in a performance that encompassed African American culture, including jazz, hip hop and African styles of dance. 

The most defining moment of the night was when all the young women stood on stage under the bright lights in their ball gowns. With only 60 seconds allotted, the girls had to answer randomly selected questions that would guarantee their spot for the crown. 

Isaac was crowned as the 2019 Circle City Classic Coronation Queen, with Maye taking first runner-up and Chavis being second runner-up. This is not the first time Cathedral girls have won the title as queen for the Coronation, as Kourtney Steppe ’16 and Destiny White ’18 are also past queens of the Circle City Classic.
