Mrs. Kathy Keyes, English teacher and department co-chair, has been selected to speak at the National Council of Teachers of English conference this year. She was informed of her status as a presenter a year for the conference in Houston, Texas Nov. 18 thorough Nov. 20.

Keyes has been employed here since 1997. She said she is excited about attending this conference. She said,“I get to work with one of my favorite mentors and heroes, Dr. Davis Miller, and represent Cathedral.”

Teachers, professors, book publishers and anyone interested in English are welcome to come to this conference, but “it is the official voice for English teachers,” as Keyes said, who added that she hopes to bring back new and interesting ideas and better practices for her students.

Keyes’s session involves how to nurture student voice in the AP classroom through discussion and formal writing. She also plans to attend sessions about teaching living poets.

Keyes said she is happy that she is able to represent the Irish in Texas for a few days. She has been given a chance to show who she is and what she does in a big way at this national conference.
