Seniors applied to the colleges of many of the banners that hang in the counselling office.

Feb. 8 will feature a long block schedule to accommodate the junior planning day for the members of the Class of 2019. During alpha period, A period and flex, juniors will hear college representatives speak about their specific university but also about college information.

College counselor Mr. Terry Knaus coordinated the day. “They’ll have three different sessions learning about college admission,” he said. These topics include how colleges make admission decisions, how to make the most of a campus visit and public vs. private and in-state vs. out-of-state universities, Knaus said.

College counselor Ms. Kathy Pivonka said the school has provided this event for several years. Pivonka said the session can be eye opening for juniors who have not yet begun their college search. There are always more students visiting their college counselors after junior planning day, she said.

“We hope (students) will learn more about the college admission process as a whole and the three admission topics that will be addressed,” Knaus said.

To prepare, juniors should research any schools in which they might be interested, Knaus said, but most importantly, he said, “come with an open mind.”

Colleges that will have representatives at the Feb. 8 event include Dickinson College, Purdue University, University of South Carolina, University of Notre Dame, Xavier University], University of Alabama, Bradley University, University of Cincinnati, Ball State University, Denison University, Indiana University Bloomington and the University of Dayton.
