The graduation ceremony for the Class of 2021 will take place at Brunette Park.

For years, Cathedral baseball has been a dominant force. Hair Field provided the home for the team during those years. But once Lawrence Central purchased that facility, the Irish had to find another home.

As the result of a donation, the school has purchased the former Little League headquarters on Mitthoeffer Head Baseball Coach Mr. Ed Freije said, “When it went up for sale, the amount of land and what was on the land and how well kept the land was immediately piqued our interest.”

The facility already has stands and a state-of-the-art press box. Freije said, “The plan is to build out the field from a Little League field to a high school field.” This would include movin the bases farther apart from 60 to 90 feet and making the fences an appropriate distance from home plate.

Freije also said, “There is a possible plan of turning one of the fields into a softball field by skinning the infield.”

This marks the beginning of a new era.

Freije said, “It’s very exciting from a personal level and for our program. Losing Hair Field was hard. There were a lot of good memories made there, championships won and friendships made. That being said, we are very excited not only for our program but also for Cathedral and the possibilities and possibilities that stand beyond baseball.”

School officials could not yet confirm the date on which the baseball team would begin playing games at the facility.
