Last summer in the Shiel Student Life Center, Camp Cathedral director Mr. Anthony Ernst prepares to check in that morning’s participants.

From building Lego castles to scoring touchdowns to writing fairy tales, Camp Cathedral has something for everyone.

Camp Cathedral is an annual summer program that takes place on the Hill. Dozens of camps are offered to for kindergarten through ninth grade.

These camps can be classified into two categories: enrichment and athletic.

Popular enrichment camps include STEM Camp, Filmmakers Camp, Robotics Camp and a variety of Minecraft camps. There is an athletic camp for almost every varsity sport, including but not limited to football, soccer, basketball, baseball and softball.

Most enrichment camps are five days long and the majority of athletic camps last four days. Almost all camps are half-day sessions, typically lasting three hours. This year, Camp Cathedral runs from June 6 to July 29.

Director of summer programming Mr. Anthony Ernst said, “Younger kids get the chance to explore the campus for the first time. Older kids have an opportunity to learn more about the school itself. They get to learn about Cathedral’s programs and meet teachers and faculty members. There are benefits for parents, too. They get to see what the Cathedral community is like and meet several key members of that community.”

Camps such as Speech Camp, American Sign Language Camp and Theater Camp, along with all the athletic camps, introduce middle schoolers to the school’s variety of programs and can prepare them for scheduling their high school classes in the future.

New camps this year include Ready, Set . . . French Camp and Show Choir Camp Extravaganza.

Signups opened on Feb. 1 and will close the Sunday night prior to each individual camp.

On a final note, Ernst said, “We still have plenty of room in many of our camps, although they’re selling out fast, so now is the time to get yourself in a position where you can join us for the summer.”
