Mrs. Lisa Ford instructs a math class during E period on Feb. 2. Ford and Mrs. Elizabeth Wissler serve as the co-moderators of the National Honor Society.

The deadline to apply for National Honor Society membership is Feb. 18.

Juniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.6 or higher are eligible to apply. Seniors who have earned this grade point average now but did not last year also are eligible to apply.

NHS is the nation’s premier organization that is established to recognize outstanding high school students. However, it is not just an honor roll. It recognizes students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service and character.

GPA is not the only factor in being accepted. As a member of the NHS, students perform service above their regular service hours. NHS co-moderator Mrs. Lisa Ford said that members assist at events such as the upcoming ShamrAuction and Open House and at other school events such as those hosted by the admissions department.

When asked why one should join the National Honor Society, Ford said, “The easiest way to answer that is, who wouldn’t want to be a part of an organization that represents scholarship, service, character and leadership? That is Holy Cross, and we are a Holy Cross school.”
